YANA Berlin launches free legal clinic for African migrants

The German-African Initiative for Development and Integration (GAIDI gUG) has taken another important step in supporting newcomers from Africa in the German capital. Within the framework of its ongoing project “You Are Not Alone (YANA) Berlin”, GAIDI has launched a free legal consultation service to provide initial legal advice to asylum-seekers and other recent migrants.

The new service, made possible with the generous support of the CMS Stiftung, offers a lifeline to African asylum-seekers and other newcomers in Berlin who often face complex legal challenges but cannot afford professional legal representation.

Each week, experienced lawyers and qualified advisers will be available to answer pressing questions on the asylum process, residency regulations and related matters, helping clients to better understand their rights and navigate the German legal system.

Since its inception, YANA Berlin, whose current phase is also supported by Stiftung Berliner Sparkasse and UNO-Flüchtlingshilfe e.V., has been a trusted partner for refugees and migrants, offering personal counselling, information sessions, workshops and seminars that provide orientation in a new land.

Through these activities, newcomers gain essential knowledge about German society, culture, laws and regulations. The addition of a dedicated legal clinic further strengthens this support system, ensuring that vulnerable individuals are not left alone when facing daunting bureaucratic and legal hurdles.

“Access to legal information can make the difference between despair and hope,” says GAIDI. “With this new service, we aim to empower people to make informed decisions about their future.”
