YANA Berlin is a support project by GAIDI gUG dedicated to standing with African asylum-seekers and other migrants in Berlin who are still working towards a secure residency status.
The project helps them navigate the often-daunting process of building a new life in a foreign country.
What We Offer
Our services are designed to empower and support newcomers on their journey towards stability and self-reliance. We provide:
- Individual counselling and outreach support
- Legal guidance on asylum procedures and residency rights
- Help with enrolling in German language courses and vocational training
- Support in dealing with public authorities
- Referrals to support services available across Berlin
- Information events on key topics such as asylum law, education, employment, and mental health
- Connections to Berlin’s African diaspora, helping newcomers feel seen, heard, and at home
Our Mission
Since the launch of YANA Berlin in 2023, our aim has been to strengthen the self-confidence and independence of those we serve. We want to help break the cycle of isolation and create long-term, sustainable pathways for people to lead self-determined lives in Germany.
Thanks to our strong connections within local and national networks, our team stays well-informed and is able to offer timely, effective and compassionate support.
Appreciation
We sincerely thank Stiftung Berliner Sparkasse and UNO-Flüchtlingshilfe e.V. for their generous support for the current project phase (April 2025 – March 2026). Their commitment makes it possible for us to continue providing essential support to those who need it most.
